30 weeks 4 days, exactly 8 weeks to go!

It's almost scary to think that in only 8 weeks I'll be a mom of two! Some days I wonder how I'll pull it all off, some days I'm afraid of what it's going to do to my son. I know he's super excited about this baby and he's been asking why she hasn't come out yet (which is really funny) but I'm also afraid that he'll feel left out, that we don't love him as much. I guess that's every mother's fear isn't it!

So I'm counting down the work days until I start my leave... 21 work days left, then I'm off until August 2011. I'm glad I live in Canada where the mat leave policy is so wonderful. It wasn't always this way, just think back to the 70s and new moms were getting only 3 weeks of maternity leave. I often wonder how they did it, go back to work so soon after having a new baby... probably why a lot of mothers then were stay at home moms I guess :)

29 weeks... everything is normal

I haven't been on here in a while and thought I would "stop" by this morning. Our last appointment was last Friday and everything looks absolutely normal. As of now I have gained one measly pound and do not have gestational diabetes. I'm so glad I passed the glucose tolerance test, the nurse was convinced I was diabetic (yeah right, not gaining weight, not super thirsty, baby is not bigger than average) and I am so glad I proved her wrong.

Saskia's heartbeat is strong, like always and she's moving around a lot. Next appointment is on June 11, normal follow-up, I'm now going to be seen every other week. Then I have to meet with the anestesiology team at the hospital because I'm overweight and I have a bleeding disorder, day after that a growth ultrasound and day after that, a normal follow-up again. That week is going to be so busy. Thank goodness the ultrasound falls on a stat holiday :)

25 weeks and counting

We made it past the halfway point woohoo! This pregnancy is flying by. Seems it's going way faster than when I was pregnant with my son in 05-06.

We're slowly working on baby's room. We do not need to paint but we have to clear out some things like mattresses we use when we have company, get the crib put together again, need a curtain rod for the new curtains... So much to do so little time. I also have to start sorting through DS's baby clothes and see what we can re-use this time around since this one is a girl. I know I have tons of gender neutral things but I still want to know where I stand with that and see how much "girly" stuff I should buy.

I am still taking anti-nausea medication and will until the end. I will not try again to stop taking it as last time I spent a few hours with my head close to the toilet bowl lol.

I have a dr's appointment on Friday, if we're lucky we get to schedule our c-section. If the doctor's schedule is available of course, we know it should be the week of August 1 but not sure which day yet.

Who wants to know...

What's hiding in my belly?

After the nasty experience of the ultrasound at 18 weeks, I was preparing myself for the worst. Even if I was feeling baby move every day and that my head know baby was just fine, I couldn't help myself but worry.

I had my follow up ultrasound last Friday and the technician we had that time was absolutely wonderful. She was talking the whole time she was scanning baby and all measurements were right on for the state of pregnancy I'm at. We quickly told her about the experience we had with the last sonographer (one of her colleagues)and she said she thought that person was probably botching her job since some of them do not like performing ultrasounds sooner than 20 weeks because it's more work.

Then she asked us if we wanted to know the gender and we said yes. She said she couldn't say 100% (she is not allowed) but that she say the tell tale lines and we are most likely having a girl!!

So Saskia Florence will be the new member of our family come August.

Ultrasound frustrations and the fears they set off

We had our ultrasound last week. We were all set to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. Well the technician refused to finish the exam because baby on certain measures measured 6 days behind and she said either my date is wrong (well unless this baby was an immaculate conception, there is no way) or it has delayed uterine growth. How can a technician make a diagnosis, why are they even allowed to do such a thing. With our oldest, they had us scared too at this same ultrasound saying the exact same thing. Anyone think maybe we just make smaller children, hello people, Nathan was born at 41 weeks weighing 6.5 pounds, you can't say that's a big baby. The doctor wasn't concerned and just wanted us to have another ultrasound done at 20 weeks, so that's what we're doing next week. Hopefully we don't get the same tech and the new one doesn't just try to scare our pants off.

We're done counting

Om so I haven't been on here since mid-december and I'm sorry about that. I think I was probably afraid of "jinxing" myself by talking about this pregnancy so early on.¸

I am 15 weeks along today and it seems like time is flying by so quickly it scares me. This pregnancy is completely and totally different than what I experienced with my oldest. With him I had heavy bleeding in the begining and I bled on and off until 13 weeks. This time, no bleeding at all but all day sickness so bad I have to take something for it.

My doctor decided this time around I had to do the IPS screening so we have been through the first round of blood test and the ultrasound which showed absolutely no sign of a problem. Next blood test is next Thursday, we should know at our next appointment in March what our odds of Down's are. If they are 1/300 and more then we will be asked to do an amnio... We're not sure we even want to do that.

Our anatomical ultrasound is March 12, that's also the day we could find out if we're having a boy or a girl. If this baby is any way like its brother, then we will know for certain when it's born hahaha!
